Archaeo-chemistry advances in spectral analysis of illuminated medieval codices revealing organic binder recipes and lapis lazuli trade routes.
Why I created this today:
Before synthetic chemical pigments or printing presses, every page of human knowledge was a devotional acts of mineral physics and painstaking illumination. Scribes ground semiprecious lapis lazuli transported thousands of miles along the Silk Road, suspended cinnabar in egg tempera, and burnished micro-thin gold leaf with an agate tooth. In this tactile scriptorium, you can grind raw minerals into tempera, lay gilded leaf with gesso bole, draw calligraphic ribbons, and export an illuminated parchment folio.
